We do not put off some decisions because we lack information. We already know what we want. Only other people's reaction is unclear.
So we wait. Think it over again, look for the perfect moment and hope things will somehow resolve themselves.
Usually, it doesn't.
Putting things off often keeps the peace only on the surface. Inside, the decision keeps running: in your head, your stomach and every conversation where you talk around the real issue. That takes energy.
Someone may be disappointed by your decision. That does not automatically make it wrong. You are responsible for clarity and respect. But you cannot take over every reaction for other people.
A decision does not need a perfect plan either. Often the next honest step is enough: a message, an appointment or a clear sentence.
Which decision are you putting off to avoid disappointing anyone?
Short exercise: two honest sentences
- If I keep waiting, …
- If I make a decision, …
- My smallest possible step today is …
Take the third sentence seriously. Make the step small enough to actually take it today. Clarity rarely comes from endless thinking. It grows when you act.
